About Rendax

Rendax is a small software company in Colorado. One person writes the code today, and bringing on collaborators is the next step rather than a someday plan. We build one thing: software that prepares Business Personal Property tax returns for small businesses and for the accountants who file on their behalf. It is not a general ledger and does not aim to become one; it handles the one return the assessor asks for each year.

Why this exists

Business Personal Property tax has run on spreadsheets and postage for decades. Every county sets its own deadline, its own form, and its own view of what counts as taxable equipment, and none of it is written down in one place. A filer learns the rules each autumn, forgets them by spring, and learns them again the following year. The tax itself is rarely large. The bookkeeping around it is.

Alabama is changing the mailing half by statute. Mobile and Baldwin counties already require electronic filing, and Act 2026-311 adds Tuscaloosa for2026. The other sixty-four counties still take paper. A mandate forces every filer in those three counties to pick software, and the options are thin: template shops that sell a fillable PDF and leave the rules to you, or enterprise platforms priced for a company that employs a property tax department. The business filing in two or three counties needs neither, and nobody has built for it.

What we cover

Rendax launches Alabama for the season openingOctober 1, 2026, beginning with the three e-file counties โ€” Mobile, Baldwin, and Tuscaloosa, whose mandate takes effect this year underAct 2026-311. The remaining 64 counties are covered the same season on paper. Colorado follows in Q1 2027 with the DS-056. Adding a state means reading its statute, transcribing its depreciation tables, and matching each county's format โ€” work that does not compress. We would rather cover two states well than fifty badly, so the map grows slowly and on purpose. If your state matters to you, name it on the waitlist and we will count it.

For accountants and small firms

The CPAs and bookkeepers we've talked to file this return for multiple clients across multiple counties โ€” often 20 or 30 October returns crowded into eight weeks. The one asset list per client works the same way as it does for a single business: enter the year's purchases once, retire what was sold, and the return generates. The multi-client story is thinner today; per-client audit trail and a client switcher land the same season we open for Alabama. If you file for clients in Alabama or Colorado, name your firm on the waitlist and we will reach out ahead of launch.
