Colorado DS-056 Business Personal Property filing
The DS-056 is the statewide Business Personal Property return every Colorado county uses. Rendax's Colorado support arrives Q1 2027.

What DS-056 is
DS-056 is the statewide Business Personal Property return in Colorado. Every county uses the same form; the assessor administers it locally, but the form itself is state-issued. The state publishes a declining-balance depreciation schedule with categories that each asset maps to.
The depreciation table lives in the state's DS-056 packet; assets carry into it by category once you've entered them, so the same asset list produces every year's return.
When it's due
The assessment date is January 1. Colorado's Business Personal Property return is filed with the county assessor and is traditionally due byApril 15, though the specific deadline can vary by county — confirm the date with your county assessor before you file. Late returns carry a penalty.
What Rendax will do
When Q1 2027 arrives, Rendax will generate the completed DS-056 from the asset list you enter once. Multi-county isn't a problem: the same statewide form applies, and a business with locations in more than one county files the same DS-056 with each county's assessor.
Frequently asked questions
- Which Colorado counties use DS-056?
All of them. DS-056 is the statewide form. Individual counties can add supplementary schedules, but the base return is uniform across Colorado.
- How does depreciation work on DS-056?
The state publishes a declining-balance table by asset category. Each asset carries its category; Rendax applies the state's schedule to the cost basis, and the depreciated value flows into the return.
- Do I file separately for each location?
A business with locations in more than one county files a separate return with each county's assessor. The form is the same DS-056; the county receiving it is different.
